Give Thanks in the Spirit

Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers and one says “thank you

Luke 17:12 As Jesus entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance 13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” 14 When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; 16 and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

Questions:

1.      For what am I thankful today to be like the Samaritan who returned to Jesus right away to give him thanks and was praising God with a loud voice as soon as he realized he was being healed? 

2.      On the other hand, have I been like the other nine who continued on their way to the temple (as Jesus instructed them to show the priest according to their tradition and command in Leviticus). Perhaps they were more focused on doing their religious thing for their own sakes instead of praising God and going straight to the author of their faith and blessing. The Samaritan humbled himself and Jesus said, “Your faith has saved you (made you whole) so go on your way.

3.      When I sing or pray or attend small or large group is my heart in my mouth or my mouth in my heart? Do I come before God by giving thanks, thereby activating my spirit to change my heart into a thankful and good heart for God to dwell in? Or do I go through the motions without filling my mouth and heart with praise?

4.      Can I join Mary and the Psalmist and together with the members of the body of Christ give thanks in the spirit?

5.      Perhaps I want to be thankful and give thanks and be full of the spirit and speak in tongues but I just don’t know how?

1 Thess 5:16-23 16 Be happy [in your faith] and rejoice and be glad-hearted continually (always); 17 Be unceasing in prayer [praying perseveringly]; 18 Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will]. 19 Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy] Spirit;…23 be sanctified in spirit soul and body

46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47  and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.

Acts 10:46 46 For they heard them talking in [unknown] tongues (languages) and extolling and magnifying God.

 (the disciples were giving thanks in the spirit just as Jesus said the Father seeks those who worship him in spirit and in truth-John 4:22-23)

Ps 34:2My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad.

3 Oh, magnify the Lord with me,  and let us exalt his name together!

Chew on these until they connect with your heart, meditation unto revelation by the Spirit (Eph 1:17).  He can turn water into wine, He can take meditation into revelation (Eph 1:17).  He wants to say these things to you, but hunger and prayer is the way forward in the Kingdom.  Confidence/Faith in the Word tears down strongholds of cultural unbelief. 

You may not know me, but I know everything about you. Psalm 139:1


I am familiar with all your ways. Psalm 139:3

I even know how many hairs on your head. Matthew 10:29-31

For you were made in my image. Genesis 1:27

In me you live and move and 
your being. Acts 17:28

For you are my children. Acts 17:28

I knew you even before you were conceived. Jeremiah 1:4-5

I chose you from within myself when I planned creation. Ephesians 1:11-12

I have been misrepresented by those who don’t know me. John 8:41-44

I am not distant and angry, but am the complete expression of love. 1 John 4:16

And it is my desire to lavish my love on you. 1 John 3:1

Simply because you are my child and I am your Father. 1 John 3:1

I offer you more than your earthly father ever could. Matthew 7:11

For I am the perfect father. Matthew 5:48

Every good gift that you receive ultimately comes from my hand. James 1:17

For I am your provider and I meet all your needs. Matthew 6:31-33

My plan for your future has always been filled with hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Because I love you with an everlasting love. Jeremiah 31:3

My thoughts toward you are countless as the sand on the seashore. Psalms 139:17-18

And I rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17

I will never stop doing good to you. Jeremiah 32:40

I am able to do more for you than you could possibly imagine. Ephesians 3:20

When you are brokenhearted, I am close to you. Psalm 34:18

As a shepherd carries a lamb, I have carried you close to my heart. Isaiah 40:11

One day I will wipe away every tear from your eyes. Revelation 21:3-4

And I’ll take away all the pain you have suffered on this earth. Revelation 21:3-4

I am your Father, and I love you as much as I love my son, Jesus. John 17:23

For in Jesus, my love for you is revealed. John 17:26

He is the exact representation of my being. Hebrews 1:3

He came to demonstrate that I am for you, not against you. Romans 8:31

Jesus died so that you and I could be reconciled. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19

His death was the ultimate expression of my love for you. 1 John 4:10

I gave up everything I loved that I might gain your love. Romans 8:31-32

If you receive the gift of my son Jesus, you receive me. 1 John 2:23

And nothing will ever separate you from my love again. Romans 8:38-39

Come home and I and all of heaven will rejoice. Luke 15:7

I have always been Father, and will always be Father. Ephesians 3:14-15

My question is…Will you be my child? John 1:12-13

Our inner world may be cluttered with competing spirits, thoughts and feelings, like athletes on a field striving against one another. Bring every thought captive to obey Christ by removing altars to everything else and building a fresh altar in prayer with God.

The power of the blood of Jesus on the city of my self: (R)

•

Its walls shall fall, its bars of iron shall be cut and its gates shall be broken to pieces. (Is 45: 2)

•

Its altars shall be destroyed, the carved images of its gods shall be cut down, its sacred pillars and wooden images shall be broken. (Deuteronomy 7: 5, 12: 3)

•

The name of the enemy shall be destroyed from every place in it  (Deuteronomy 12: 3) and his high places shall be removed. (Ezekiel 20: 29, 2 Chronicles 17: 6, 2 Chronicles 20: 33)

•

Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough places smooth. (Isaiah 40: 4, Luke 3: 5)

The altar of God shall be built, the walls shall be built

and the doors hung. (Ez 3, Neh 3 & 7: 1 - 3)

The ruined and desolate places shall be built and the

desert shall blossom. (Is 35: 1 – 2, Ez 36: 34 - 36)

And Christ shall be formed in me. (Galatians 4: 19) (R)

And the city of my self, Jerusalem, shall be the city

of the great King. (Matthew 5: 35)

The power of the blood of Jesus on my inner Jerusalem: (R)

It shall put on her strength, her beautiful garments; a holy city, the uncircumcised and the unclean shall no longer come to it. (Isaiah 52: 1)

But it shall be a dwelling place of God in the spirit (Ephesians 2: 22), a home for the Trinity (John 14: 23), a place for the Holy one and my heart a throne for the high. (Isaiah 57: 15)

God anointed Jesus with power to proclaim the new kingdom, heal and do good (Acts 10:37-38) and through his glorious ascension his Spirit is poured into our hearts, sealing us and guaranteeing our future (2 Cor 1:21-22). As one of God's elect, I am a stranger in this world, chosen and sanctified by the Holy Spirit (I belong to God as his elect-1Peter 1:1-3).
     I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Counselor, who since He came, convicts the world (and me) of guilt, sin, righteousness and judgment (John 6:18-11). I believe in the Holy Spirit who dwells in me as a temple (1Cor 3:16) and who lives in me and is jealous over me (James 4:5). I believe in the Comforter, Counselor, Spirit of Truth, who guides us into all truth, who brings glory to Jesus by taking what is His and making it known to us. (John 16:15) He brings all things to remembrance that Jesus said, and gives me what to say when I testify (Matt 10:19-20).
     I believe in the Holy Spirit who is the Anointing and abides in us and teaches us (1 John 2:20, 26), in whom we are baptized into Christ (1 Cor 12:13) and are all made to drink of one Spirit (Eph 4:4). He gives me life and leads me; because I have my mind set on the things of the Spirit I have life and peace (Rom 8:6-7) and am renewed in my mind (Eph 4:24). I am filled with the Holy Spirit (Eph 5:19) and power (Acts 1:8). He quenches my thirst (Jn 7:37-39), prays in me for the saints according to the will of God (Rom 8:27-28), prophecies through me (1 Cor 14:1-3), gives me strength as I wait on the Lord, quickens my body, enlightens the eyes of my heart (Eph 1:17), gives me revelation from the Father, uses the Word of God as a Sword in my mouth (Eph 6:17) and gives me a NOW word that has proceeding application and power (Mt 4:4).

     I believe in Holy Spirit and am born according to the Spirit (Gal 4:28), born from above (Jn 3:7); have received the Spirit by faith not by works (Gal 3:2).
     I believe in the Holy Spirit whom I have received the Holy Spirit from Him who supplies the Spirit (Gal 3:5) and since I began in the Spirit (Gal 3:3) I can continue to live in the Spirit and walk in the Spirit (Gal 5:25) for God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts; so, I’m no longer a slave but a Son (Gal 4:6-7) and His Spirit bears witness with my spirit-I am a child of God. (Rom 8:15-17).
      I believe in the Holy Spirit who bears in me spiritual fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control  (Gal 5:22-23). The Holy Spirit helps me walk in the spirit so I will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Gal 5:16) but I will be led by the Spirit (Gal 5:18).
     I believe in the Holy Spirit who gives manifestations of grace through me as He wills, and I earnestly desire spiritual gifts, especially that I may prophesy to the building up of the body in love (1 Cor 14) and  so I may speak in tongues in an ongoing prayer language which I do not understand but is according to the will of God for the saints and builds myself up in faith (Jude 20). I also ask Him and He gives through me, by the same Spirit, words of wisdom and knowledge, supernatural faith, healing and working of miracles, discerning of spirits, tongues and the interpretation of tongues as a sign to unbelievers(1 Cor 12 and 14).

and worship in Spirit and Truth
